
Bone Carvings
Traditionally whale bone was used by Maori to create these pieces however, today each design is hand carved from Beef bone. The designs are based on the old traditions of Maori and each has a meaning.
The Koru – A spiral shape symbolic of the opening of a tree fern frond representing the awakening of new life, positive change and personal growth.
He Matau – The fish hook which signifies abundance and plenty. A good device for catching good luck and positive energy and a safe journey especially over water.
The Whale Tale – A symbol of protection when combined with a hook will also bring prosperity.
Manaia or Taniwha – A mythical marine creature that guards every lake, sea and river. It is a Spiritual guardian, a provider, protector over the air, waters and land.
