Hematite

Hematite is an iron oxide and is a lustrous, opaque, blue-black to silvery gray mineral and has been known as a "black diamond".

The name Hematite comes from the Greek word for blood. The Hematite is black, but when powdered or fragmented can take on colours ranging from ochre red to jet black.

Hematite is known for its ability to draw out inflammation, build the immune system and for cleansing the blood.

Historically Hematite was used in the making and colouration of pottery and in the early 20th century was used in stickpins for ties. More recently, Hematite has gained popularity as spherical, faceted and tumbled irregularly shaped beads. We use a faceted stone in our jewellery range.
